that's what puzzles me too: with libcurl it works, but our sample doesnt;
I copied most of the stuff over from libcurl to ssh2.c, but seems I missed something;
our ssh2.c sample does definitely not work with newer Linux boxes.
So what currently needs a fix is probably only the sample, and not libssh2.
